International relations are absolutely crucial for the successful development of the International Banking Institute. Since the very beginning internationalization was chosen as the primary trend of its development. This trend is shown in every aspect of the Institute’s activity to start with its full integration into the Bologna Process, the organization of the learning process close to one of the foreign best business schools and universities and to finish with annually arranged internships, summer schools and courses abroad.
The international status of the university contributes to attraction of positive foreign experience and advanced educational technologies. It is during the first years of its activity that the Institute was supported by the British governmental fund "Know-how", which assigned means for formation of the library of IBI and paid the work of professors who came to our university from Great Britain. Since 1992 students of the Institute worked on probation in the banks of the United Kingdom - in Wales, Scotland, and England.
Now international relations of the Institute are widespread and IBI international recognition is absolutely unprecedented for Russian non-government educational institution. It is proved by several international associations’ membership and accreditations. International Banking Institute takes the most active part in various international events, e.g.Luxembourg Financial Forum, EBTN annual meetings, Conference "St. Petersburg and Luxembourg: Partnership of Centers for Financial Services". The Institute currently has business and academic partners in more than 30 countries and this list is planned to be enlarged. We have old and close contacts with Luxemburg, which may be called the banking capital of Europe, as there is no other country on our continent with such high concentration of banking institutions per 1 square kilometer. V.N. Veniaminov, the first president of IBU was the Merited consul of this country in St. Petersburg.
Educational environment in the International Banking Institute is fully internationalized. Bachelor Degree programshave very high presence of internationalization in their curricula. Master Degree Programs have already become bi-lingual. Double-degree programs developed in collaboration with Stockholm University, IFA, IAB and EBTN are taught fully in English. Curriculum of these programs is very close to one of the world leading business schools and is oriented on the international standards. Both Bachelor Degree and Master Degree Programs’ curricula necessarily include modules abroad, e.g. summer schools, study courses or internships and it is considered to be an important step towards higher level of internationalization of IBI.
The Institute’s International Relations Office is responsible for very effective support of the internationalization goals.
